Falken achieves sensational third place at the opening of the new VLN season

Klaus Bachler and Sven Müller excelled at the opening of the new VLN Endurance Championship at the Nürburgring with a sensational overall third place in their Porsche 911 GT3 R. Peter Dumbreck and Jens Klingmann crossed the finishing line in the BMW M6 GT3 in eleventh position. After a six-month winter break, the Eifel hills at last reverberated once more to the roar of engines. A total of 177 vehicles – including two Falken racing cars – assembled at the start of the VLN Endurance Championship 2018 inaugurating race. In qualifying, Peter Dumbreck and Jens Klingmann took 8:07.919 minutes to complete the 24.358 km circuit of the Nürburgring sprint track and Nordschleife, placing the BMW M6 GT3 in a very decent tenth starting position. Following just 0.299 seconds later, Klaus Bachler and Sven Müller fell into line directly behind them in the Porsche 911 GT3 R, embarking upon the race in eleventh position. In the early stages, both Falken vehicles kept pace with the top group, giving a very convincing performance with constantly fast lap times. As the race progressed, their strategy involved repeatedly switching positions; the combination of intelligent racing tactics and a perfect choice of tyres particularly benefited the Porsche, which succeeded in assuming a near-podium position. In the end, Klaus Bachler and new driver, Sven Müller, completed the four hour race, passing the finishing line in third place. Peter Dumbreck and Jens Klingmann rounded off the fine team result in eleventh position. The season continues in just two weeks' time with the second VLN 2018 race.
